If you've been checking out the wesite over the past few days you may have noticed it hasn't changed that much. Yes, that's the way it looks. Behind the scenes everything has changed. The webhost we've been with since 2006 has been replaced. The was the single best decision made all year. The old webhost was fine for the old website. The website was failing left and right. From a user's perspective if you tried to use the search bar it didn't work. That was one of many things that didn't work with the new site. When we landed the new site with the new webhost all the little issues simply went away. From your perspective you may notice the pages load faster, and the navigtaion works. We have looked over most of the pages on the website and other than a small problem here and there the website transfered very nicely.
Over the years there have been many websites that have added our pages pages and content to their website. If it was going anywhere else but to www.lifetimeimages.com the links would be dead with the new site. We had to manually create a path from the old links to the correct page on the new site That process is mostly done, and it took forever. It's the boring stuff we needed to take care of before we could move onto making the website more beautiful.
You ever move into a new house or apartment? You notice that the paint is crisp and white and the carpet is fresh and new and it looks wonderful as you open the door for the first time. Then you move your stuff in and things change. The desk you bought for $25 at the Orange County Swapmeet now leans left and the simulated wood over particle board now just looks so out of place.
That's how the new website feels to us. So new, so clean, and yet so much stuff still left in the moving boxes. The old site had so much personality that we've built up over the years which didn't make the great transition to the new site. Currently I'm still working on making certain that things work. It's a lot of work to get nearly caught up to the old site. At times it's a bit overwhelming to put so much time and effort into this site and realize that it's just a cleaned up, stripped down version of the old site. But in the big scheme of things the old site overstayed it's welcome by about five years. There are times we got so behind on putting content on the old site that people may have wondered if we were still in business.
For right now I'm still working on the functionality of the website. You may see a lot of white pages with text for the time being. But as the issues get worked out you'll see the website get personalized a lot more. You'll also be seeing a lot more images and personalization as time goes on.
Thanks for staying with us!
When I heard that the Space Shuttle Endeavor was coming to town I was excited. The place to see it was well advertized, the Griffith Observatory. I knew what was involved with that scenario, namely waking up at 3:00 AM (or simply not going to bed), showing up when the gates opened at five and basically hanging out for around 8 hours. I love photography and the shuttle but I also love my sleep. I couldn’t take that much time out of the office.
We're so looking forward to 2013! We had a great year in 2012 with so many great weddings and so many great images that never got shown on our website. Our old website fell into a state of disrepair. It was cluttered, confusing, and had broken links all over the place. It was no reflection of who we were and what we offered. This new site is being built from the ground up and we're putting a lot of effort into making sure that it's functional. The images and the stories will follow, but we want to do it in a way that we're proud of everything that gets presented.
The other great opportunity we're looking at is integrating the website with our Facebook page. Most people will be shocked to know that we actually have a Facebook page. We never talk about it, hardly use it and so far it has twenty likes! So, it's going to be interesting to see if we can get the page to take off.
