Trevor and Trang
October 17th, 1999
Many wedding photographers are niche players serving their local community.
They, for
example, will tie in with their church and will be known as "the" photographer
to book when
you want to get married at his church. Until a few years back, that’s how you
ran a successful
wedding photography business. Hotels and reception sites do the same thing, but
often want
money from the photographer for their referrals. I don't believe in this form of
business. I do
like challenges, and I do like going to different places doing different things.
Trevor and
Trang's wedding was all that and more!
The one thing I enjoy are different cultures. So many people I
have known from different cultures have rag to riches stories. My grandfather
nearly starved to death as a child in Romania, came to the US, sold newspapers
on the street corner in
New York. Eventually got into clothing and was the last person in his family to
move to Beverly Hills.
His son (my dad) was the first in the family to go to college Trang had a
similar story, parents who immigrated to the United States, and saw her through
college and an advanced degree in health. During her traditional Buddhist
wedding ceremony in the morning there was a part where she had to
give thanks to her parents for all they had done. Though I didn't understand the
language she
spoke, or what the words she used, I knew exactly what was said. Tears flowing,
the look of pride from her family, it was very special.
Trevor comes from a different culture, Chinese. He is a doctor in the Air Force,
an internal medicine specialist. After meeting him you would swear that you know
a guy just like him. He
has a happy go lucky attitude, always flashing a 32 teeth smile, with a very
relaxed personality. At one point I he turned to me during the Buddhist wedding
ceremony, smiled and said "I don't know what I am supposed to do."
To be fair, they really had two weddings on the same day. The Buddhist ceremony
in the
morning required a special set of clothes, red and blue, very vibrant and
colorful. I took them
outside and photographed them with a very colorful, high contrast film. The
results were
spectacular. The 7th Day Adventist ceremony required what we consider a
traditional wedding
dress and tuxedo. And you think you will have a long day on your wedding day?
The first
Ceremony started at 10:00 AM and the wedding reception lasted past midnight!
Imagine being
that gracious for that long!

sorry you
are not seeing the actual print, it is breathtaking! Taken at sunset near the
ocean. Trang and
Trevor swore they look like models out of a magazine.
